CCS projects often require pipeline transport to safely move carbon from the emission source to the storage site. Currently, there are more than 5,000 miles of CO₂ pipelines in the United States alone, transporting about 80 million metric tons
of CO₂ per year. For more than 30 years, the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration has regulated the safe transportation of CO₂ in pipelines.
