Pipelines

Pipelines are the safest, most environmentally friendly, and efficient form of transport.

Furthermore, according to the Liquid Energy Pipeline Association, CO₂ pipelines are the safest of all types of energy pipelines.

CCS projects often require pipeline transport to safely move carbon from the emission source to the storage site. Currently, there are more than 5,000 miles of CO₂ pipelines in the United States alone, transporting about 80 million metric tons of CO₂ per year. For more than 30 years, the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration has regulated the safe transportation of CO₂ in pipelines.
